His "Pure" Day

March 1st was little man's 1st Birthday. I wanted to make it a special and fun day for him and succeeded somewhat.  When he woke up that morning, Jolee, Daddy and I (with video camera in tow) all went into his room and sang Happy Birthday to him. He stood up and looking through the slats of his crib, smiled oh so sweetly and started waving at us, it was precious!

Dad went off to work and we went to the front room, where we had pulled out Jolee's old ball pit and had blown it up and he and sister climbed in and the fun began. We had to run some errands that day, I was still getting stuff bought and ready for his big birthday party that Saturday. He also had his 1yr old check up on his "pure day" what I was thinking when I set that up, I don't know. Well, I will tell you what I was thinking...I was thinking I will get his weight and height and what percentile he is in, so I can write it down in his baby book. I will get the ok to turn his car seat around (although we had done it a few weeks earlier) I would feel better getting the ok from the Dr. (I guess). I would also get the ok to take him off of formula and start him on whole milk (which would save us money on rice and formula) and oh how much easier that would be only pouring milk rather that measuring rice and formula out. He also would get to sport his cute little 1yr old shirt I bought him.

What I didn't think about was the shots, he would get at his 1yr old visit. Notice I said shots as in plural. Umm he got 5. 5 shots on his birthday, what a horrible, horrible mother I was for making his 1 yr old visit on his 1st Birthday. I mean who does that? As I was literally on top of him holding him down, while he was looking up at me screaming with his face so so red and Jolee sitting in the chair in the corner with her face turned away and her hands covering her ears, I was thinking...I am a horrible Mother, we had been having so much fun and laughing and playing together and then this.

So if you are still interested in his states, after hearing all that here they are...Weight 23lbs (55th percentile), Height 29 inches (50th percentile), H.C. 19.2 (75th percentile, which has been steady) I know you are not shocked by any of these. When we came out of the exam room, there were literally 5 ladies made up of nurses and receptionist saying... ya'll got to stop, no more shots, we can't take it anymore, poor baby (there again yet another stab in my heart, why in the world did I do this appt on this day)?
You would think that Jolee is a celebrity when we walk in there, nurses, receptionist, PA's, accounting everyone comes out and talks to her about how she is, her hair, her outfit, etc. Now add Brennan to the mix and it's just crazy, a crazy fun time for the kids and a sweet time for me, because they love my kids and take such good care of them. After getting treasures from the treasure box and stickers we were on our way. One of the nurses gave Jolee a little present and then had a little gift for Brennan with a card that said...Look who's one today!! It's Jolee's brother, Brennan...  Happy Birthday!! Love from all your grannies and aunts at FFM!

When our errands were done and some Motrin was given, little man took a much needed nap. When he woke up and Daddy had come home, we had our little family party. Instead of a cake (since he was going to have one at his party on Saturday) I got him a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and stacked them on a plate and we sang Happy Birthday to him and let him dig in. He grabbed the one on top and put it to his mouth and looked at us, like is this for real? You aren't going to take it away from me? He almost ate a entire donut and LOVED it! It was so much fun, we sat around eating our donuts and watching him with his!
After getting him all unglazed we went and did presents!! Jolee had picked out 2 things to buy him, a tunnel (for them to climb through) and and Elmo bath book. She was so sweet that day to him, like always but she was a little extra special to him that day, telling him every other minute..Happy Birthday Brother, I love you! Are you so glad your 1 and your a big boy now, etc, etc! She never one time acted jealous of his special time and day, which was so sweet to watch and witness, she genuinely was happy for him.

We got him a radio flyer rocking horse, a baby animal sound book and some "boy" plates and bowls so he wont have to eat off of princess and barbie plates any more. He was a little "iffy" at first of his rocking horse, he was definitely interested in it, but he warmed up to it pretty quick. The tunnel as soon as we got it out, he started climbing through it, back and forth, back and forth, he loved it. As I was watching him and thinking back, it got me thinking how different Jolee and he are. Jolee at that age, would have looked at it, but not dare go near it and forget about her going in it. As for him, we could not get it together fast enough for him to get in it and through it.
I realize that in all his birthday pictures, the first thing you notice is his baindaids on both legs, but despite that I think he had a great day and hopefully I accomplished making it special for my little 1 year old!

He is starting to cruise around (I think thats what it's called). While holding on to something walking sideways and getting a little more braver everyday about letting go for a minute. So I'm guessing once he does start walking, I'm going to be busier than I am now, trying to keep up with him.

After a full day of birthday festivities...ball pit, presents, donuts, whole milk, shots and playtime with new toys, he ended the night with his 1st bubble bath!

Turning 1 accomplished!
